Sheehy Elementary to Celebrate Brand New Student Services Center on July 31

Merced City School District is honored to celebrate the completion of Sheehy Elementary’s new Administrative Services building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of the new facility on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.

Spanning approximately 2,140 square feet, the new exquisitely designed student services center is equipped to support families of Sheehy Elementary for decades to come. The new and inviting school entrance offers an extended shade structure and seating for students in front of the new home for all office personnel, the school nurse, and administrative staff as they work to support the needs of the Sheehy student body.

“The Sheehy cougars are looking forward to settling in to the new student services center, which is more than double the size of the previous space, with unique touches making it already feel like home,” new Sheehy principal Daniel Perez said.

Brand new spaces built from the ground up don’t happen overnight, and although Sheehy is proud to be wrapping up this final phase of construction, the project took approximately 3 years to complete. Upgrades include modernization of 5 classrooms, installation of two outdoor learning centers, 3 new portable classrooms, and much more.

The new administrative services building was constructed in approximately 10 months. An estimated amount of $17 million was allocated to Sheehy Elementary utilizing the following funding: Measure M, Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) 1 funds, and dollars from the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). “Here in MCSD, we strive to allocate resources to support the vision, mission, and goals for our students,” Superintendent Julianna Stocking explained. “These improvements are an example of that. “Across our District we are pleased of the strides made thus far, but understand there is more work to be done on behalf of our school communities.”

Because you voted YES to Measure M, these updates districtwide were made possible.
