Students Celebrate Constitution Day
September 19, 2016

Students at Stowell Elementary School in Merced took part in a patriotic sing-along Friday morning in honor of Constitution Day, which commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17th, 1787.

The songs included “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” and “This Land is Your Land.”  Kindergarten classes even decorated their own red, white, and blue hats and waved American flags they made from colorful construction paper.

This musical tribute was the culmination of a patriotic themed week, led by third grade students at Stowell.  They read inspirational quotes about America over the public address system each morning after reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Other Merced City School District campuses have also been taking part in patriotic activities, beginning with a 9/11 Day of Remembrance last Friday and leading up to Constitution Day.  That includes Gracey Elementary, where students made a red, white, and blue "paper quilt" with the help of their teachers.
