Merced City School District is one of the largest school districts within Merced County serving 10,500 students from various diverse and rich backgrounds. The District is focused on student success and meeting the needs of all students. The District has done an outstanding job of improving the academic performance of all students as indicated by the ongoing and increasing API scores. The API scores have increased by an average of 39 points, per year, over the past five years for the elementary schools; and increased by 18.5 points, per year, for the middle schools. These increases are significantly higher than what is required under the State Testing Program.

The District has implemented many programs to meet the needs of the students. The latest and most impressive is the Read 180 Program to improve the reading abilities of those students in grades 4-8.

Improving the facilities is another focus for the district. The District has been supported by Measure S, which allowed the modernization of eleven school sites; and will provide for the construction of two new elementary schools in the next three years. The District is committed to providing the best facilities possible to meet the needs of our students.

The most impressive aspect of our District is the staff; the people who actually work with our students and with the community. District staff is very committed to improving student achievement and is actively engaged in providing the best instructional environment possible for our students.  Ongoing teacher development programs, and administrative training programs, are vitally important in keeping our staff on the cutting edge of current educational techniques. It is through these people that the District is able to provide an outstanding education for the students of the Merced
City School District.
