The Merced City School District has actively pursued making advanced technologies and access to a wide variety of information resources available to all District staff and students. We believe that students and staff will benefit from the increased learning opportunities that modern technologies provide. We also believe that the tools of technology will help to make the transfer of information more efficient.
The term 'network' in this policy refers to all computers, printers, peripheral equipment, servers, and other equipment that are connected to each other for the purpose of communication and data sharing.
All uses of the MCSD network shall be consistent with the purpose, goal, mission and priorities of public education in general and the Merced City School District in particular. The intent of the MCSD Network Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) is to ensure that all uses of the network are consistent with its stated purpose. The use of the network is a privilege, not a right. It is the responsibility of students and staff to recognize and practice acceptable uses of electronic resources in order to continue to be granted those privileges.
The Network Acceptable Use Contract is a legal document which every user of the network must sign and abide by. Signed contracts will be kept in personnel files for staff and in cum folders for students. In addition, a notation will be made in files kept on the mainframe computer indicating staff and students who have a signed contract on file. A signed Network Acceptable Use Contract will remain in effect until:
1. the user is no longer an employee or student of Merced City Schools, or
2. a user's network privileges have been permanently revoked.
